# Disclaimer Last updated 9 September 2026. ## Conversions are exact; fuel figures are estimates These are two different things and it matters which you are looking at. Distance conversion is exact arithmetic. The mile has been defined as exactly 1,609.344 metres since 1959, so a kilometer-to-mile result is as correct as the number you typed in. Only the display is rounded. Anything involving fuel is an estimate. Real consumption depends on conditions no calculator can see: traffic, gradient, altitude, weather, tyre pressure, vehicle load, air conditioning, fuel grade, engine condition and driving style. Expect real-world figures to differ from a calculated one by 10 to 20% in ordinary conditions, and by considerably more in extreme ones. ## Not professional advice Nothing on this site is financial, legal, tax, insurance or mechanical advice, and no relationship of professional and client is created by using it. In particular, do not rely on these calculators alone for: - Tax or business mileage claims. Tax authorities publish their own official rates, rules and record-keeping requirements, and those take precedence over anything here. Speak to an accountant. - Insurance declarations or annual mileage estimates on a policy. - Odometer or vehicle history disputes , where the evidence is the documentation, not a calculation. - Vehicle purchase decisions , where you should rely on official manufacturer figures and independent testing. - Diagnosing a mechanical fault. A falling economy figure is a prompt to see a mechanic, not a diagnosis. ## Do not use these tools while driving Pull over somewhere safe first. Using a phone at the wheel is illegal in most places and dangerous everywhere. No conversion is worth a collision. ## Fuel range and remote routes Never plan a journey so that you would arrive at a fuel stop with nothing in reserve based on a calculated range. Leave a genuine margin, and more on remote routes where the next station may be closed, out of stock or further than the map suggests. ## Currency The fuel cost calculator is currency-agnostic: it returns a figure in whatever currency you entered the price in. It performs no exchange-rate conversion and holds no exchange rates. ## Errors and omissions We check our figures and correct mistakes quickly, but this site is provided without warranty and may contain errors.
